Growing up in Matsumoto, Japan, her family cultivated pumpkins, and during World War II, these gourds became a staple of survival. Kusama has spoken of how the pumpkin's unpretentious form and organic irregularity resonate with her own sense of self. In 1990, she was already a seasoned artist, having returned to Japan after years in New York, and her pumpkin works from this period reflect a mature synthesis of Pop Art, Minimalism, and her signature hallucinatory patterns.

This poster reproduction is printed on our Master's Edition archival paper, an off-white, uncoated substrate that offers a luxurious matte finish.
